Teethmaster
A digital flatgame with elements of horror and irreverent humor. GameMaker, 2023, solo project.
This digital flatgame follows a little guy who dreams of collecting teeth like the pros, and sets off on a journey to find and talk with his idol, the Teethmaster. The game combines unsettling imagery in a collage style with absurdist, irreverent humor to tell a story about becoming consumed by the thing you want most to become.
I worked on Teethmaster for approximately 2 weeks in September 2023 as the sole writer, programmer, and visual artist. Through GameMaker as my platform, I wanted to convey a sense of narrative inevitability through all the rooms being linked together linearly, the character proceeding from left to right in all of them, but I also wanted to provide a backdoor exit for those curious enough (or worried enough) to find it, which would flip the orientation of the player's movement and force them to move right to left, reversing through the rooms, in order to escape. For the game's visuals, I love using a collage-type style for games to make them just slightly more unnerving, surrounding the pixel-art player character which I drew myself in GameMaker with photorealistic images of geese and teeth to make the player feel even smaller in the world of Teethmaster and even more vulnerable.
