Text-based horror game. Twine, solo personal project, completed for a game jam. 2024.
In this companion piece and prequel to my older Twine game, Dark Forest, a woman journeys into the heart of a mountain in order to make a bargain to ensure her family's legacy. Armed with only tarot cards and a lantern, she must come to terms with what she is willing to give up to get what she wants.
The illusion of choice and the idea of consumption are central to this work, and the main character begins her journey desperate. The game's structure is also deeply rooted in the tarot and their meanings, and in the early stages of the game I used cards to structure the emotional journey the character undergoes. I'm interested in exploring spirituality and belief through the cards in this game--the idea that cards can mean whatever you want them to mean, but your belief is what guides your interpretation.
